Description
Photograph of a female Ruby-throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris). Hummingbirds are some of the smallest birds in the world. They make high-pitched chirping sounds, but are more commonly known for the humming sound created by their wings. This particular hummingbird holds her head perfectly still while she hovers and moves her wings and speeds that are too fast to see. Only the males of this species have the flashy ruby-colored feathers on their throat.
