Description
Photograph capturing the frozen world of Cheney Lake in the winter (Reno County, KS). Cheney Lake State Park is located in Kingman and Reno Counties, Kansas. These amazing ice sculptures are created as the lake begins to freeze. Mist from the waves freeze on the shoreline plants and rocks first. Soon after the surface of the water begins to freeze, but the power of the water that isn’t frozen pushes back the ice, breaking it into ominous looking shards. There are two sounds that also capture your attention. One is the shards as they scrape against each other. The sound that is that of huge ice sheets cracking. This sound then resonates through the ice and water and is truly amazing - A sound that I find indescribable and something that simply needs to be experienced.
