Description
This three and a half foot long Eastern Racer was precariously balanced along the top of one of my fences. Racers are a type of constrictor found in the Midwest and Eastern United States. This one watched me carefully as I approached it with my camera. The snake let me take a few pictures and then it decided to leave. As it slithered down the fence I ran my hand down its tail end. Snakes always amaze me with how hard their scales appear to be and yet when you touch them they are extremely soft. Once the snake made it to the ground it was stunning to see how quickly it darted away. Racer is definitely a fitting name. A lot of people would have killed the snake just for being a snake, but I gladly welcomed this one to stick around since it is nonvenomous and eats mostly mice and insects.

Lordy, that is eye to eye--a little tooooo close for me. Great take in that that "front" end is so very distinct with such a soft muted backdrop. Glad that you shared. Thank you.

Thank you Mary! "--a little toooo close for me"... I had the same thought as I was taking the picture! :)
